why did I hesitateJan 22, 2011
By Gael Fletcher I first saw this product advertised in a sewing catalog. Looked like a good idea but it also seemed a little pricey. When I found the sharpener on Amazon at a lesser price than the one in the catalog, I hesitantly decided to try it. First, the sharpener is much more substantial than what it appeared in the catalog or online. It is easy to use, it is handy to have near my cutting area, it doesn't slip or slide, and the results are superb--super fine cutting edge. I imagine I will save many $$$ by being able to sharpen (not replace) the blade. (I have saved many of my dull rotary blades thinking that sometime I would take them to a professional sharpener. Now, I can be that "professional sharpener" thanks to this truly great product.)

rotary blade sharpenerFeb 27, 2011
By peregrinesea Bought this item to support the my quild's work in supplying quilts to the local hospital's oncology ward. We go through quite a number of cutting blades and wanted to save a little money. This item turned out to be quite a asset. It is very easy to use, lightweight (but not flimsy), does not require the cutter to be disassembled thereby limiting exposure to the very sharp cutting edge, and get's everyone back to work with a minimum of fuss. Customer service was very good also, The item was shipped quickly and was well packaged. The cost of the item was below the average cost from my research on the web. I would do business with the seller again.

Exactly as advertised.Aug 08, 2011

I was tired of throwing away all the rolling cutter blades I use for a little while until they're dull. As a professional seamstress, I use a *lot* of them and it gets expensive, at $6-7 per package of five, less if you can find a coupon or something to use.
So I ordered this one and yes, it works well. It's like a reverse paper cutter; you leave the blade in the rolling cutter and run it up and down through this sharpener.
However, the one reason I really bought this one was to get more use out of the blades that might have a bit of a knick in them, you know, there you might have run up against a pin or something while cutting out a piece. It takes very little to make a blade skip in the cutting, sometimes on a new blade and then it's no good.
And this sharpener doesn't *do* that; it says that clearly in the instructions. It only sharpens, it doesn't get out the dings. *sigh* So I'll get a bit more use out of some blades but it's not as great as I'd hoped it would be.
I need to find something that re-grinds the little buggers back to true and sharp.

Easier to use than the round rotary cutterMay 11, 2011
By Ali Julia I am quilter who has used a round rotary cutter in the past Rotary Blade Sharpener- For 45mm Blades.
TrueCut sharpener works by using the same motion as you cut, by moving the cutter in the sharpener itself. This sharpener works without having to remove the blade from the cutter.
The round sharper requires you to disassemble the rotary cutter, which has a number of pieces including the sharp blade. Then you have to take the blade in your bare hand and place into the sharpener. After the sharpening you have to to handle the blade again, and then reassemble the rotary cutter correctly (one has to remember how pieces fit together exactly).
Not having to remove the blade from the sharpener is a *huge* advantage. It is faster, less chance of cutting yourself, and no chance of assembling the rotary cutter the wrong way (been there, done that).
Both rotary cutters work well and prolong the life your blades, and thus save you money. But this sharpening method is much better!

A new reviewSep 15, 2011
By Quilter T Having lived with and used this sharpener for a couple of months now and gotten more comfortable with using it, I decided I'd better change my former negative review. I still think it is a little pricey, but the more I use the sharpener between projects the better the blade seems to sharpen and just a few passes through the sharpener does do the trick. My smaller blades are still sort of "crunchy" sounding, but they are indeed sharper and cut more smoothly as well. Also, the sharpener is definitely not shoddy or junky but is sturdy and well made, so it will without a doubt last more than long enough to pay for itself several times over. It's got enough heft to it so it stays in place while you are using it so you can keep a steady hand, but is light and compact enough to tote along wherever your quilting heart desires. You do have to be a little careful not to knick the blade while you are feeding it into the sharpener, but once it's in there the sharpener does the trick. Over all I think it is a well made and mostly very well thought out, effective product and I'm sorry my beginning sticker shock and timidity in using it caused me to give it the previous poor review. If any of you quilters, crafters or scrap bookers who use rotary cutters are currently making out your wish lists for Christmas you may want to include this sharpener on it. If you are lucky enough to get one, give yourself a little time to get used to using it and then enjoy, and save the money from the new rotary blades you won't have to buy for buying more fabric or cardstock!
